Beer Review: Chuckaboo from Mr. Majolica's Brewing Co.

Welcome to the Shed. I am even-star and this is The Beer in Review. Today's review is Chuckaboo from Mr. Majolica's Brewing Co.

I suppose that part of being a reviewer of beers is having to write about beers you don't really like. I have tried not to do this in the past but that feels dishonest. There are poor craft beers out there. And it has nothing to do with their craft credentials. Some of them are not very nice.

The reason for that preamble is the weekend did not get off to a good start. I had two beers in a row that I did not care for at all. Giving a beer a bad review is even harder when it comes from a brewer whose beers are generally brilliant.

Which is why I was so disappointed in this new pale ale from Mr. Majolica: Chuckaboo

It just didn't know what it was doing with its flavours. A mishmash that did not go together. It was EXTREMELY bitter and not in a hoppy citrus sort of way. In a peppery olive oil rocket salad kind of way. There were hints of unripe strawberry and sour apple. The whole thing felt like an experiment with a bunch of different hops and it did not come together for me at all.

This is very unlike all of the other beers I have had from Mr. Majolica over the past year which were smooth, complex, and full of a great blend of flavours. Which is pretty good for a brewery who are bold with their flavour choices. It definitely has not put me off the brand and they have another one out right now I am eager to try.

The Beer in Review is a blog about beer. Mostly British beer because that is where I live. I post a review every week day. Make sure you check in on Friday which is when I reveal BEER. OF THE. WEEK!
