Beer of the Week Craft Beer Review: Lavaman Red from Kona Brewing Company

Welcome the Shed. I am even-star and this is The Beer in Review. Today's beer of the week craft beer review is for Lavaman Red from Kona Brewing Company.

So it is Friday (hooray!) which means it is time for: BEER. OF. THE WEEK!

I have just got back from Hawaii and this would have to be my favourite beer of the holiday as well as of the past week. And not only because by the time I was able to try it I was craving something other than a pale ale.

Lavaman is a red ale and beautifully malty even when served ice cold. I would have to do some testing to determine if American craft beer is made specifically to be consumed ice cold or if it would be just as good at cellar temperature like English beer. English beer is a bit variable that way.

Generally the flavour suffers at lower temperatures because anything very cold inhibits your taste buds.

Maybe this is why many of the beers I tried in the US were overwhelmingly hoppy. It makes up for the serving temperature. I drink even bottled real ale at cellar/room temperature and I tried to do this with one or two of the bottled beers in the States and didn't like them. 30 minutes in the fridge made a huge difference.

The Beer in Review is a blog about beer. Mostly British beer because that is where I live. I post a review every week day. Make sure you check in on Friday which is when I reveal BEER. OF THE. WEEK! You can contact me with comments and questions on twitter or facebook.
