Craft Beer Review: Aphrodite from Cottage Brewery

Welcome to the Lurve Shack. I am even-star and this is The Beer in Review. Today's craft beer review is for Aphrodite from Cottage Brewery.

Today we have an interesting post about a beer I haven't had before from a brewery I like. And it serves to illustrate what a complex and subjective product real ale is.

The brewery is Cottage and the beer, new to me, is Aphrodite from their Greek Myths range. I have had several beers from this range and enjoyed them all from what I can remember.

Aphrodite is a TERRIBLE beer. It was so terrible that I made sure to ask when it was put on and was assured it was fresh from the morning.

It was so terrible that I couldn't finish my half. VERY rare for me. Unless the beer is verifiably "off" I will finish the glass.

But I could not drink this. Which meant there was about a 1/3 of a pint left on the bar.

This is when one of the regulars we are friendly with comes in and asks what beers are on and asks if what I had was any good. I say I had a pint of Fletcher's (see yesterday's post) which was pleasant and that I had to leave off on this Cottage one. He asks if he can try it.

He REALLY liked it. I was totally baffled. What was a lifeless, light brown, flat, flavourless, insipid drink to me was virtually nectar of the gods to him.

And that is craft beer for you. That is why I don't like giving BAD reviews. Taste in beer is so subjective. More so than wine I think. The chemistry that goes into making the flavour profiles is far more complex.

So Aphrodite from Cottage. Try it or don't. You might hate or love it!
