Craft Beer Review: Colley's Dog from Tring Brewery

Welcome to the Shed. I am even-star and this is The Beer in Review. Today's craft beer review is for Colley's Dog from Tring Brewery.

Thursday hop heads! Almost weekend so hang in there. Don't let the nice doggie scare you. Just rub his tummy and give him beer and he will love you.

Back to the beer: you have seen MANY Tring beers on here but never Colley's Dog. I have never had a Colley's Dog before but I have seen this pump clip many times up above the bar at our local. It was exciting to finally see it on.

Curious about other Tring beers? See my reviews for Ridgeway, Moongazing, Robin Red Breast, Dockey, Santa's Little Helper, and Cassowary.

Like yesterday's Black Wych this was a very dark beer. Definitely ruby but very darkly so. And indeed looking at my notes it would seem that the two beers are similar. But I think Tring got the balance better. Colley's had the robust flavours of dried fruits and liquorice but not the strong savouryness. It was  malty and there were some distinctive hops in there with bitter tones of candied grapefruit peel. A bit more sweetness.

I enjoyed a pint but found it very rich and opted for a lighter (and lower ABV!) beer afterwards. This would be really good with a  deep flavoured tomato based pasta dish, chilli, or, an old favourite from my childhood, Chicken Cacciatore (if you know what that is!)

The Beer in Review is a blog about beer. Mostly British beer because that is where I live. I post a review every week day. Make sure you check in on Friday which is when I reveal BEER. OF THE. WEEK! You can contact me with comments and questions on twitter or facebook.
