Canadian Craft Beer Review: Octopus Wants to Fight from Great Lakes Brewery

Welcome to the Shed. I am even-star and this is The Beer in Review. Today's Canadian craft beer review is for Octopus Wants to Fight from Great Lakes Brewery.

Share It!

Octopus Wants to Fight was a clear gold bitter. Tons of hops, resinous and tropical. Pine, rosemary, limes, and orange. It was so tasty!

Octopus Wants to Fight from Great Lakes Brewery gets the official Snail of Approval!

So how unusual is that. Two Snail of Approvals in a row! Great Lakes, BTW, is one of many Toronto breweries. It was great to see how the beer culture has taken off in Canada.

Here is another fine example of craft beer in a can. And I would have to say that the can format really opens up the brand narrative potential for beer. There is a ton of space on these cans to build your brewery story. I actually kept this can and brought it home with me because on the back there is a story about their pet octopus being a jerk. It is hilarious.

I can almost see some of these craft beer cans becoming collectible one day in much the same way certain biscuit tins or cigar boxes or other bits of brand memorabilia have become popular.

It is quite different from the British pump clip where you have five or six inches in which to sell your story with only an image.

The Beer in Review is a blog about British craft beer and real ale. Keep up with new posts and contact me comments and questions on twitter or facebook. I'd love to hear about your craft beer adventures and recommendations from your home town.
