Essex Craft Beer Review: Old Growler from Nethergate Brewery

Welcome to the Shed. I am even-star and this is The Beer in Review. Today's Essex craft beer review is for Old Growler from Nethergate Brewery.

Old growler was a dark brown bitter. Very liquorice, fruity with prunes. Bitter-sweet and sour, astringent, lighter than stout or porter.

Not my bag at all. Prunes and liquorice. It was very popular with many of the regulars at our local though. It would probably go well with some kind of very strong cheese. Sometimes you get a beer that would be better with some kind of food. Then again, is there anything that cheese won't make better?

I have put this brewery in Essex because that is where they now have a premises but they originated in Suffolk in the mid 1980s. Essex and Suffolk border each other.
