Cheshire Craft Beer Review: Centaurus from Stockport Brewing Company

Centaurus from Stockport Brewing Company craft beer real ale review pump clip
Welcome to the Shed. I am even-star and this is The Beer in Review. Today's Cheshire craft beer review is for Centaurus from Stockport Brewing Company.

Centaurus is a very clear light gold beer. Bitter with very lemony hops. A very bitter bite indeed of lemon zest with something umami giving it a green peppery savoury tang like rocket or chrysanthemum. To finish there is a pleasing soft fruit tone like melon or peach.

A very brand new brewery indeed. Only been around since 2013. Stockport is in the North West of the UK near Manchester. In pursuit of my One Beer from Every County project I have decided to put this in Cheshire even though Stockport borders the two counties of Lancashire and Cheshire. Politically speaking it belongs to the metropolitan borough of Manchester but I am going for the more traditional ceremonial counties. Which are more clear cut.

But that means I can conveniently put another Stockport brewery in Lancashire if I am short of counties later in the year! If you watch my YouTube videos or are a regular reader of my blog you will know I love the Manchester area of Cheshire and its neighbouring towns in Derbyshire.

It's funny too that the pump clip has a railway bridge on it. Whenever I think of Stockport I think of the old brick Victorian railway arches exactly like that. Some breweries really try to capture their small regional roots in their branding like this and it is a good strategy.
