Nottinghamshire Craft Beer Review: Sheriff from Lincoln Brewing Co. real ale pump clip
Welcome to the Shed. I am even-star and this is The Beer in Review. Today's Nottinghamshire craft beer review is for Sheriff from Lincoln Brewing Co.

Sherrif is a gold beer. Fruity with and hoppy. Medium bitter up front and fairly rich. Strawberry fruitiness in the middle. And at the back there is an interesting umami of Stilton. Very interesting and complex. Finishes quite bitter.

There are just so many puns there my head asplode.

The Lincoln Green branding is very consistent. All of their  pump clips are in this style with the colour of the clip changing from beer to beer. And they are all unashamedly Robin Hood themed with names like Tuck, Marion, Quarter Staff and Longbow.

APART from what they call their elements range which is themed on the periodic table. Which is kind of a strange choice juxtaposed with their core branding.

If you saw the previous post for Fuller's IPA, you will know we took a little trip to Stratford-upon-Avon which is where I had this beer.

Pub-wise, I was a little disappointed. Most of the pubs were owned by Fuller's or Greene King and had a sadly limited selection of beer. Basically Fuller's or Greene King.

I had this beer in the new Micropub (the Stratford Ale House) at the top end of town. They had four ales from craft breweries on cask and many more bottled. The town's dissatisfaction with the state of beer elsewhere was reflected in how many people managed to cram themselves in to what must have been a 12 foot square.

Although apparently it used to be worse. According to one of the gents we met in the ale house, in the 1970s all the pubs were owned by the now defunct Flowers brewery. So you only had one choice of beer!

Other places with good beer selections were The Bear, The One Elm, and Cox's Yard. If you are looking for a good place to eat (like NOT a pub) that serves decent beer you will be disappointed. We tried everywhere and no luck. Stratford was such a beer disappointment due to the fact that I know there are lots of breweries in that area but local business just apparently has refused to capitalise on this.

How about you? What place did you go to expecting great bars and pubs and beer that disappointed you? Tweet @even_star.

This was going to be an episode of Cask Ale Quicky Craft Beer Review on my YouTube channel but I have decided to rethink the format. There have been too many beers for me to realistically keep up with video reviews for them all. In the meantime check out my latest live beer review!

The Beer in Review is a blog about craft beer and real ale. Keep up with new posts and contact me with comments and questions on twitter or YouTube. I'd love to hear about your craft beer adventures and recommendations from your home town.
